Typical reasons for an electrical rewire

With all our electrical devices, modern day household power usage is higher than when many properties were last rewired, potentially putting the wiring under dangerous levels of strain. The safety benefits of being free from electrical failures and fires is often reason enough to have rewiring work carried out but a full or partial rewire of your property also has added benefits. Having the opportunity to start afresh and design fixtures and fittings that better match requirements, whilst installing energy efficient lighting and smart controls is an attractive proposition for many, as is the value it can add to a property.

If you are interesting in having your home or business rewired, don’t hesitate to get in touch or book us online – our friendly electricians will be happy to visit your property and provide a quote for full or partial rewiring.

Warning signs that you may need an electrical rewire

An electrical system will often show signs when there are potential problems. If you notice any of the following warning signs it is likely that your home or business will need a partial or full rewire:

  • Old / deteriorating wiring
  • Fuses that frequently blow without explanation
  • Dimming or flickering lights
  • Light bulbs that regularly burn out in a socket
  • Lighting or power points that only work intermittently
  • Sparks from an outlet when you plug or unplug a cord
  • Electrical shock when you plug in or touch a cord
  • Hot or discoloured switch plates, cords, or plugs

If a property hasn’t been rewired in the last 25-30 years, the chances are it will need upgrading at least partially to ensure it meets current safety standards. If you think you may be in need of some rewiring work, our electricians are available for full and partial rewires in Wirral, Liverpool, Cheshire, North Wales and North West regions.

If you are unsure, feel free to send us a picture of your fuse board via Whatsapp or by email and we’ll be able to advise on the age of your installation and whether it is likely you will need a rewire.

Preparing for electrical rewiring

It is important that planning and preparation is done before a rewiring project starts. Deciding which fixtures and fittings should go where at the outset is beneficial as costs can rise if significant changes need to be made after work has started, but your electrician can guide you through this and provide suggestions at the initial visit.

Rewiring can be quite messy and disruptive if you are living at the property while it is being done – we always aim to keep this to a minimum but the nature of the work means that some is unavoidable and we recommend that valued items are packed away to not get dusty.

What to expect having a rewire with Ecolux

On our initial visit to your property, we’ll introduce ourselves and carry out a visual inspection of your existing electrical installation. We’ll then discuss the scope of the rewiring work you would like carrying out, problems you may be having with the existing installation and any specific improvements you might like to make. Once we have this information, we’ll head back to the office and get a detailed cost estimate prepared for you. If you’re happy to proceed with the work we’ll agree on some dates that are convenient for you and get to work. Rewires can be messy and disruptive but we always aim to keep this to a minimum and will work around your schedule as much as possible.

Once we’ve completed your electrical rewire you’ll be issued with an Electrical Installation Certificate for your records, and we’ll conduct a thorough clean up to leave your property as clean and tidy as we found it. All work carried out by our electricians comes with a lifetime Ecolux workmanship guarantee.
